Kentucky's Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design offers an up-to-date educational program for students who are looking to pursue careers in the Cosmetology industry. Students at Barrett & Co. enroll in programs in cosmetology, manicuring or to learn to be an apprentice instructor. They are taught about the most up-to-date tools, techniques and trends in the beauty industry. New product development and educational techniques are regularly incorporated into the comprehensive educational programs at Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design and students learn from accomplished and professional teachers.

The 1,800-hour cosmetology program at Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design covers fundamental aspects of hair styling such as basic hair cutting techniques, permanent waving, relaxing, roller application and three-dimensional design, as well as other cosmetology skills such as manicuring and facials. Students learn through lectures, demonstrations and mannequin practice. After students have mastered the basics of cosmetology, they are allowed to move on to clinic practice, where they develop their skills by working on patrons. Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design also uses the Redken Scientific Educational System, which includes trico-analysis, hair through the microscope, creative concepts in hair color and training tapes available to all cosmetology students. After completing the course of study, students are prepared to pass the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology exam and obtain an Apprentice Cosmetology License.

Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design also offers a 600-hour manicuring courses where students learn techniques such as nail shaping, color selection, artificial nail application, polish application, as well as receiving information about common nail disorders and business management. In addition, alumni and other licensed cosmetologists can enroll in brush-up classes that are designed to keep students informed about new developments in hair styling and fashion. Finally, cosmetologists interested in teaching others about the beauty industry can enroll in the 1,000-hour apprentice instructor course, which covers lesson planning, the psychology of student training, demonstration techniques and classroom management.
