As Belmont Abbey College is grounded in the tradition of Benedictine, it aims to develop the whole person with a strong core in liberal arts. Pre-professional schools offered at the North Carolina college include a minor in pre-law and majors in dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

Viewed as a vehicle of virtue, the athletic department at Belmont Abbey College is home to a number of varsity sports teams that win on and off the playing field. Proudly sporting the colors red and while, the Crusaders were founded in 1876 are part of the NCAA Division II and the Conference Carolinas. Crusader varsity sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, wrestling, softball and volleyball. A number of intercollegiate sports are also offered for those who wish to stay active on campus. Either way, sports at Belmont Abbey College is seen are an important part of the building of oneself.
