Before the groundbreaking ceremonies of Bennington college in 1931, founders had a clear vision of what they were out to achieve. They would create an institute of higher learning that went beyond the books and the ordinary student/teacher relationship. They would let students define their own education rather than cramming an extensive amount of materials into one's mind. Students would be engaged and would be here because they want to be here. More than 75 years later, Bennington College is surpassing its initial goals and giving students even more than they expected.

Bennington College is tucked away in the southwest corner of Vermont on the border of New York and Massachusetts. Nearby cities such as Albany, N.Y., New York, Boston and Montreal are just a drive away. These bustling cities will offer students cultural diversity and entertainment in a big-town style. Back home at Bennington College, students are afforded extracurricular activities, campus involvement and a close-knit community.

Education at Bennington College is both exceptional and unique; students can design their own course of study by incorporating a number of studies into their course load. With a student-to-faculty ratio of eight to one, students are welcomed into classrooms by name and are spoken to on a personal level. And whether one is studying on the undergraduate or graduate level, professors at Bennington College know more than a student's last name and grades.

To round-out what students learn inside the classroom, Bennington College offers a field work term so students can apply their knowledge in a real-life environment. The hands-on program allows students to use the winter term to work in a full-time job or internship to further their understanding of their chosen field of study. This program is can be both engaging and of the highest importance as potential employers like to see experience from employee candidates.

Learning is also taken to another level at Bennington College. Here, students will enjoy participating in clubs, organizations, campus events and intramural sports. These opportunities enhance a student's development at the higher education level.
