Founded in 1837, Blackburn College is a private, coeducational, residential college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the liberal arts education at Blackburn College emphasizes critical thinking and leadership development.

Blackburn College offers more than 40 academic programs leading to the bachelor's degree in the fields of humanities, natural sciences, and social science. Pre-professional programs are also available in dentistry, engineering, law, medicine, and veterinary medicine. In addition, Blackburn College is one of six Work Colleges in the nation; students supplement their education by working at least 160 hours per semester to maintain college operations, which build experience and helps to alleviate the costs of tuition.

Blackburn College is an NCAA Division III school with 11 teams competing at the varsity level. Students can also participate in several clubs on campus, including cheerleading, student senate, community service, and cultural and religious groups.
