Brookhaven community college provides one- and two-year degree programs to students from across the Lonestar State. Operating an open door admissions policy, students from across Dallas are invited to take advantage of the school's broad selection of liberal arts and vocational degree and certificate programs. The school confers Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees as well as vocational certificates in technical areas including accounting, automotive technology, business administration, child development, computer information technology, e-commerce, emergency medical services, management, marketing, office technology, paramedicine, radiologic technology, nursing, and visual communications. Students may take courses during the day or during the evening as well as through the school's distance learning program.

In addition to offering traditional academic fare, Brookhaven Community College also offers non-credited continuing education courses, dual enrollment classes for high school students, and basic skills courses for students not yet ready to enter college. Brookhaven's Senior Adult Education Program enrolls more than 650 seniors ages 55 and older each year in courses such as computer training, art, literature, travel, and genealogy.

Brookhaven Community College is also home to a lively campus environment. The campus currently boasts six athletic sports teams (men's baseball, basketball and soccer and women's softball, volleyball and soccer) and is a member of the National Junior College Athletics Association Division III. The school is also home to a number of student clubs and organizations including a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society for two-year college students. Other on-campus groups include performing arts clubs, religious groups, political organizations, and social clubs. In addition to student-led clubs, Brookhaven Community College also sponsors a number of social and cultural activities that take place on campus each year. All Brookhaven students are invited to attend the barbecues, plays, concerts, career fairs, and guest lectures that take place in Dallas every semester.
