As a public, nonprofit institution of learning in North Carolina, Brunswick
community college has been dedicated to offering accessible and affordable classes and services to the community since its doors opened in 1979. As a two-year college, it operates under the supervision of the
North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges.
In keeping with its mission, this
North Carolina college subscribes to an open door admissions policy. According to this policy, any individual who is 18 years or older -- and either is a graduate of high school or the recipient of a GED -- may gain admissions to Brunswick Community College. Upon following the formal admissions process and gaining acceptance into the school, students will be able to choose from a variety of technical programs that will enable them to enter fields such as
health care, business technology, public and personal service, and information technology. These two-year programs generally are structured to prepare students for entry-level positions in their field of choice.
Once their two-year coursework is completed, and certain conditions are met, students will have earned either an Associate in Applied Science degree, or an Associate in Arts degree. Students may then choose to transfer to a traditional four-year college or university where they will be granted junior-status and their education at Brunswick Community College will be counted towards a bachelor's degree. Students will then only have to complete an additional two years to attain their bachelor's degree at the second institution.
