Academy is located in Cheshire, Connecticut, and was founded in 1794 by the Episcopal Bishop of America to educate future clergy. Today, the
Connecticut School offers academic programs to middle school and upper school students. In the last decade, the
Connecticut school's campus has expanded with the addition of a new residential complex, several faculty homes, and an alumni baseball field.

Cheshire Academy also places a heavy emphasis on character development, encouraging its students and staff to follow the Eight Pillars of Bowden: respect, responsibility, caring, civility, citizenship, morality, fairness and trustworthiness.
The middle school at Cheshire Academy provides academic programs to sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Academic classes include traditional studies of English, history, math, science, and foreign language, plus courses in computer skills, anthropology and human development. Cheshire Academy's upper school offers
high school and postgraduate students courses in performing arts, history, foreign languages, math and science. The Connecticut school's art department offers students a variety of programs, including music appreciation,
photography, public speaking, ceramics and art history.

In 1917, the Connecticut school was purchased by the Roxbury Training Center to prepare students for Yale.
More than 350 students are enrolled at Cheshire Academy, and over 40 students attend its middle school while more than 300 students attend its upper school. The Connecticut school has over 200 boarding students.
Students at the Connecticut school represent more than 10 states, and over 20 countries, including China, Jamaica, Spain, Venezuela, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Cheshire Academy's student body also consists of local students from more than 50 towns in Connecticut.
Cheshire Academy has over 100 faculty and staff members and its teaching faculty numbers more than 60.
Athletic offerings at Cheshire Academy include cross country, field hockey, basketball, fencing, lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.
In 2007, Cheshire Academy awarded more than $1.5 million in need-based financial aid to about 30 percent of the student body. The Connecticut school also offers students merit scholarships and has an internal loan program.
