When
Concordia College Selma first opened its doors to students in 1922, it was situated in a rented cottage and aimed to train professional church workers. Over the next 70-odd years the school would grow both in its size and its mission, becoming a coeducational four-year institution of higher education.
Today Concordia College Selma is comprised of 13 buildings that are situated on 22 acres, and offers both the Associate of Arts degree and the Bachelor of Science degree to students. One of the
Alabama college's most recent additions to its campus is the Julius and Mary Jenkins Center, which boasts a swimming pool, gymnasium, jogging track, classrooms, and more. The Willis Wright Complex, meanwhile, is home to a 300-seat auditorium, teacher education and computer labs, classrooms, resource and testing rooms, and faculty member's offices.
In addition to its status as a Historically Black College (HBCU), Concordia College Selma is a private school owned by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) and provides students with a
liberal arts education as well a teachings in
Christian faith.

Concordia College Selma's Spiritual Life Team is comprised of students who discuss and organize religious activities like Bible study, trips, and various creative endeavors for the students, faculty, and community. The college also boasts a music ensemble, which consist of a choir and instrument players, and a marching band.
Concordia College Selma students participate on athletic teams for sports like: men's and women's basketball, women's softball, men's baseball, football, and soccer. Intramural activities also include billiards and table tennis.
The Alabama college is home to the Dr. Rosa J. Young Museum, named in honor of the woman responsible for the school's founding.
