Contra Costa Medical Career College offers training in the Allied Health careers of phlebotomy technician I, clinical medical assisting, and IV therapy certification. Contra Costa's phlebotomy technician certificate program trains students in obtaining blood specimens by ventipuncture and micro collection techniques as well as the collection and processing of other clinical specimens. The medical assisting training includes taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting physicians during examinations, and other duties including administering medication, drawing blood, giving injections, and preparing patients for X-rays. The IV therapy certification courses prepare students for initiating and/or maintaining common intravenous therapies. The program also includes nursing assessments, documentation, and special patient care.
