The Corcoran College of Art and Design opened in 1887 with two instructors and 40 students. Today, Corcoran College has grown into two campuses. One campus is located a block from the White House and the second campus is in Georgetown. The college is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher education and is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

The Corcoran College of Art and Design confers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts five-year degree program. Undergraduate and graduate degree areas of study include fine art, fine art photography, photojournalism, Graphic Design, digital media design, interior design, teaching, and arts education.

  • Corcoran College of Art and Design maintains exhibition space for student, faculty, and alumni art work. Throughout the academic year, a series of continuing group and individual shows are exhibited in the Hemicycle, Alumni Exhibition Hall, and White Walls Gallery.


  • The Frances and Armand Hammer Auditorium is used by the museum and college for performances, films, and special programs.


  • Upon matriculation, Corcoran College of Art and Design students receive membership to the Corcoran Museum of Art. Benefits of membership include free admission to the museum, a 10 percent discount at the Corcoran shop and Cafe des Artistes and discount/member process on all Corcoran programs.

  • Corcoran College provides its students with furnished residential accommodations conveniently located near its campuses. New students attending Corcoran are guaranteed housing if they meet the housing deadline. Apartments can also be leased during the summer to students who want to take summer courses, including students from other colleges and universities interning in the city.


  • Tutoring is available through professional and peer tutoring at the H street campus.


  • Corcoran College of Art and Design students who need special instruction in English skills can take a special writing fundamentals course. Students receive a letter grade and academic credit for the course.
