Cushing
Academy is a coeducational school, founded in 1865. The academy's mission is dedication to educate the mind, shape the character and nurture the creativity of young men and women. Cushing offers a
College Preparatory curriculum and the skills and values needed for success academically and personally.
Cushing Academy's academic departments include classical and modern languages, computer science, English,
English as a second language, history and social sciences, mathematics, performing arts, science, and visual arts. On a daily basis, students are guided in their classes by questions that help them make a connection within and between disciplines.

Cushing Academy has 55 full-time faculty, a 7 to 1 student/teacher ratio; the average class size is 12 with some classes of only four or five students, and 70 percent of the Cushing faculty live on campus.
September 2004, Cushing Academy introduced the Cushing Laptop Initiative. This program requires that every new student bring a laptop to campus that was purchased through the Cushing Laptop Purchasing Program. The program allows students access to the academic tools available to them. Students can use Penguin the academy's intranet, use research tools and online databases through the Fisher-Watkins Library website, CushNet First Class is an email and bulletin board system used by everyone apart of the campus community for campus and worldwide communication, and the CA Server is where students can store their folders and access them anywhere on the campus network.
Cushing Academy students have high-speed Internet access computer labs, network access in all dorm rooms, wireless networking in all academic buildings, electronic white board, projectors and sound systems in 95 percent of classrooms; and a 16 track digital recording studio and multimedia lab for digital video.
The academy's Fisher-Watkins Library has more than 20,000 volumes, more than 100 videocassettes/DVDs, over 60 domestic and international periodicals, subscriptions to a variety of online databases, an automated catalog, reference collection, wireless internet access, networked computer lab, and an experienced staff.
Cushing Academy's college counseling staff begins to counsel students as early as their freshman year. The staff assists students throughout the entire college admissions process, matching student's abilities, strengths, personal preferences, and career interests to an institution of higher learning that fits them the best.
The academy's campus life includes a close-knit residential campus community, activities and excursions, and clubs and organizations.
Financial assistance is available. During the 2007-2008 academic year, 90 percent of students received more than $1.9 million in financial aid.
