D-Q University was a tribally-controlled, two-year
community college established in 1971, located on 643 acres of land on Road 31 west of Davis, California. The Native
American school was one of the six original
tribal colleges in the
United States.
D-Q University provided
education to Native American people with the goal of preserving and supporting traditional Native American values, religion and beliefs and offered
Associate Degrees.
The tribal college provided its students with academic support services that included extensive undergraduate evening or early morning classes, a learning center, and remedial instruction and tutoring. D-Q students also participated in independent study and internships.
Quick Facts
The D-Q University site was originally constructed in the 1940s when it was used as a United States Strategic Air Command Communication Center. The five buildings were later used as administrative, research, classroom, and dormitory facilities.
D-Q University has had to deal with severe financial and accreditation issues.
