A member of the University System of Georgia, Dalton State College was founded in 1963 on a 136-acre campus near Interstate 75. Over the years this four-year institution of higher learning has grown both in size and scope -- most notably, from the original enrollment of 524 students to the thousands in attendance today. Dalton State College has also seen its campus grow from five modest administration and classroom buildings to such specialized buildings as the Technical Education Building, the
liberal arts Building, and the Roberts Library.
Today's Dalton State College also offers a number of programs of study within seven different schools -- the School of
business Administration, School of Education, School of Liberal Arts, School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, School of
nursing, School of Social Work, and the School of Technology. Within these various disciplines and fields, students may choose to earn either a bachelor's degree or associate degree.
As of the autumn of 2007, this
Georgia college boasted more than 4,500 students -- 52 percent of whom were enrolled on a full-time basis. Currently the most popular degree programs amongst all students are the Associate of Science and the bachelor's degree programs.
