Deep Creek construction School is dedicated to developing professionals to fulfill the employment needs of the construction industry and mining concerns, both Union and non-Union. The program requires 150 hours of training in 167 specific skills. Graduates of Deep Creek programs acquire skills and training to become operating engineers.

Deep Creek Construction School's program of 167 skills teaches students grade checking, safe working load, start up procedures, and shut-down procedures. Through grade checking, students become capable of setting up a transit, identifying benchmarks, determining height of instrument, identifying points of interest, taking accurate readings, computing data, and reporting the information. Safe working load requires students to learn the formulas for safe work loads for rope and wire. Start-up procedures involves equipment inspection, control identification, and equipment check. Shut-down procedures requires preventative maintenance, security, safety, and clean up. These skills are determined by experts in the construction and mining industries and are deemed as necessary for those entering the industries.

The Deep Creek program trains students to operate nine different pieces of equipment in the construction and mining industries, including backhoe, dozer, trencher, skip loader grader, excavator, and wheel loader. Students become efficient with this equipment in a short period of time.

  • Deep Creek Construction School offers enrollment after orientation has been completed. Classes begin on a continuous basis with students graduating and beginning each week. Students must be at least 18 years old. Prospective students without a high school diploma or GED must take and pass an Ability to Benefit Test for acceptance to the program.


  • In addition to the orientation requirement, students must meet vision and physical considerations, speak and understand English, and are required to take a pledge.


  • Deep Creek Construction School is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of career schools and Colleges of technology.


  • The tuition for the program is $5,900, which includes lab fees, supplies, text books, and equipment and materials for the course.


  • Financial assistance is available through Sallie Mae. Sallie Mae provides a loan for the tuition and an additional $3,500 for expenses while going through the program.


  • Deep Creek's program is nine weeks long with 150 hours of classroom instruction. Students learn, practice, and demonstrate the 167 specific skills essential to their careers.
