Founded in 1917 by electrical pioneer L.L. Nunn, Deep Springs college is a very small men's liberal arts college nestled on a cattle ranch and alfalfa farm deep in the High Desert of california. Deep Springs College has just 26 students who, in conjunction with a supportive staff and faculty, work to uphold Nunn's three principles of academics, labor, and self-governance.

Students complete a two-part application process in order to be considered for admission at Deep Springs College. Accepted students enroll for two years and are awarded a full scholarship that totals over $100,000 for the duration of their education at Deep Springs College.

While students at Deep Springs College are required to take Composition and Public Speaking, the rest of their coursework is chosen based on their own individual interests and goals. There is a strong relationship between both students and faculty, and discussions of course topics are known to go on well past the hours spent in the classroom.
