Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy was established in 1960 and later purchased by its current owners, Carol and Nicholas Evans in 1976. The academy trains students in basic and advanced Cosmetology and Nail Technology skills. Continuing education courses are available for the staff, and in-house training is provided by outside educators in the industry.

Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy's cosmetology program is 1,500 hours of study with a curriculum divided into three phases. During phase I, students obtain an in-depth introduction to cosmetology in the areas of communication skills, sanitation/sterilization, hair/hair disorders, anatomy of the cranium, hair shaping, hair pressing/curling, thermal styling, professional ethics, chemistry, draping/shampooing, scalp/hair care, pin-curling/roller placement, and permanent waving. Phase II challenges students to increase their speed and accuracy during practical applications in the program. The courses include chemical relaxing, nails, anatomy of the hand, manicuring and pedicuring, special effects, skin disorders, facials, massage and makeup, electricity/light therapy, finger waving, nail diseases and disorders, hair color/lightening, cells, structure of the skin, anatomy of the face, superfluous hair removal, and salon business. Phase III reinforces all the theory and practical subjects covered in previous phases.

The nail technology program covers the areas of anatomy and physiology, sanitation and sterilization, equipment and chemicals, manicure, pedicure, massage, artificial nails, introduction and demonstration of new products and technology, professional ethics, business practices, hygiene and personal, safety precautions and procedures, and state laws.

  • To enroll into Del-Mar-Va Beauty Academy, students must be at least 16 years of age and show proof at the time of enrollment. Prospective students can enroll at any time and must have earned a high school diploma.


  • Del-Mar-Va Academy enhanced the study work areas in 2006, with the addition of professional salon style equipment. The student work area has 22 styling stations, each have professional hydraulic chairs. The shampoo area consists of five European style shampoo bowls and chairs. The bowls are designed for the creation of an ergonomic and pain free workspace. The salon also has a beautiful reception area.
