Dominican University College is part of an 800-year long tradition of studies in philosophy and theology that began in the 13th century. The Dominican order, founded in 1260, brought a school of theology to Ottawa in 1900, adding philosophy studies in 1902. Today Dominican College offers undergraduate and graduate programs as well. The College offers a peaceful and thoughtful environment where learning and research take place against a backdrop of religious life.

This Ottawa College is located in a beautiful building which is also home to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Convent, where the Dominican Friars live. Students interact daily with the Dominicans, in courses taught by the friars, as well as in the cloister, the library, the cafeteria and at church.

Dominican University College is a place of dialogue, where students can engage in the great Dominican tradition of the exploration of knowledge and all varieties of thought.

The faculty members are diverse in their research interests but all follow the medieval tradition, maintaining its synthesis in the philosophy and theology of St. Thomas Aquinas, and the ancient philosophies of Plato, Aristotle and the Neo-Platonists. Students develop a strong base and learn to apply their studies to the modern world.

The bilingual journal Science et Esprit hails from Dominican University College, as does the International Journal for Social Economics.
