Douglas J: Aveda Institute
331 E. Grand River Ave.
East Lansing, MI 48823
Douglas J:
Aveda Institute began with a vision of one haircutter in the 1960s. Douglas Weaver based this vision on three principles: provide an uncompromising level of service for his guests, create opportunity for professional growth for young people within the salon industry, and to give back to the communities that support Douglas J:
Aveda Institute.
This dream became a reality in 1967 when he opened his own small salon with his wife. With only six employees, he began his salon in East Lansing, MI. He defied conventional longhaired styles by cutting shorter styles. For this, he was recognized for pushing the boundaries of hairdressing. It was at this time that Douglas began his lifelong focus on developing the talents of his team. He believed that the salon's success was dependent on the success of each team member. This is still the culture of the company today.
Weaver finally opened the Douglas J
Academy of Cosmetology in 1986, where students could learn the ways of all aspects of
Cosmetology. It finally became the Douglas J:
Aveda Institute in 1993 under the guidance of his sons and continues to thrive and serve students. Douglas J: Aveda Institute offers a variety of programs that suit many different beauty school needs.
