Farmingdale State College was founded in 1912 as the New York State School of the Agriculture on Long Island. Over the years though, it has grown into a four-year institution of higher learning dedicated to the liberal arts and the awarding of bachelor's degree. Farmingdale State College consists of the School of engineering Technologies, the School of business, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Health Sciences.

Currently, more than 30 degree programs are available to students, covering such areas as aviation, mechanical engineering technology, business, dental hygiene, nursing, physics, criminal justice, sociology and anthropology, and chemistry. Approximately 6,400 undergraduate students are currently enrolled.

Located on nearly 400 acres of land, the New York college is less than an hour away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Farmingdale State College also has the unique distinction of being a part of The State University of New York, which grants it a low tuition rate.
