Founded in 1974 by the Florida State Board of Education, the
Florida School of the Arts was the first state-supported arts school. It is an art school that prepares students for careers in theater, production/design, dance, fine art and
Graphic Design. Students at the
Florida school are given individualized attention and a hands-on education to develop their creative abilities.
The Florida School of the Arts only offers associate's degrees. Programs include fine arts, graphic design and new media,
photography, dance studies, illustration, acting, musical theater, costume design, stage management and scenic/lighting design.
Enrollment at Florida School of the Arts is limited to only 150 students a year. Class sizes are small and the student to faculty ratio is 12 to one. Admission into the Florida school is based on an interview and an audition or a portfolio review.
