Focus: Hope Machinist Training Institute, opened in 1981, trains students for careers in manufacturing and machining. The 31-week, full-time program provides state licensed training in precision machining and metalworking.
Students at the Machinist Training Institute learn how to operate lathes, mills, grinders and CNC equipment. Students create their own set of tools, including hammers, clamps, V-blocks, sine bars and parallels. Upon completion, graduates can either obtain employment in the manufacturing sector or continue their
education in a 20-week pre-
engineering program. This program prepares them for
Advanced engineering studies at the Center for Advanced Technologies.
Course work at the Machinist Training Institute in the basic machining and pre-engineering program includes: math and blueprint reading;
technical drafting; computer aided design; computer aided manufacturing; computer numerical control; and manufacturing theory.
