Forest Park
Community College's emphasis on global education means that students will examine ideas from a multi-cultural perspective and have the opportunity to study abroad during the semester, summer, or during spring break. Travel-study programs for 2007 included a spring break marine biology study in Jamaica, a summer Spanish immersion program in Chile, and a summer Muslim Religion studies program in Turkey. For exceptional students, the on-campus Honors Program offers opportunities for individualized study, self-directed projects, internships, and community development activities as well as the opportunity to join Phi Theta Kappa international honor society. All students at Forest Park
Community College will have the chance to get involved with the surrounding community thanks to the school's service-learning projects.
In addition to classroom activities, Forest Park Community College also offers a wide array of cultural and social activities for its students. School-sponsored events for 2007 include a performance by marimba virtuoso Nebojsa Zivkovic, an outdoor electronic music festival called "Digital Circles," and a theatrical rendition of Some American Abroad, a satire about American college professors and students on an obsessive-compulsive tour of England. Students also have their choice of six different sports teams and a handful of student-led organizations ranging from campus ministries to professional development clubs. Forest Park Community College also offers an student-run radio station as well as a student-run newspaper.
To ensure student success, the on-campus Learning Achievement Center offers free tutoring, mentoring, and college success workshops. Forest Park Community College also provides career counseling and child care facilities.
