Located just 50 miles south of Houston, Texas, Galveston students have the benefits of a rural campus with the advantage of being close to a big city. Galveston has a strong focus on practical, career-oriented degree and certificate programs, particularly in the fields of healthcare, hospitality, and computer applications. Students here may choose to pursue an Associate of Applied Science or Associate of the Arts degree (either which may be used to transfer to a four-year institution) or to stick with a certificate program of study, usually lasting one year or less. Galveston community college offers a particularly large selection of healthcare-related programs. Ranging from Breast Imaging/Mammography to Emergency Medical Services certification to Medical Office Assisant programs of study, medically-minded students will have their choice of course offerings at this campus.

In addition to degree and certificate programs, Galveston Community College also offers a number of non-credited continuing education programs for senior adults and the surrounding community. The Lifetime Learner's Institute offers personal interest courses taught to and by learners ages 65 and over. The school hosts an annual Kids College summer camp for students ages 6 through 12 as well as a year-round business and Financial Institute that offers low-cost financial literacy courses to interested students. Galveston is also home to several continuing education institutes including the Medical Institute, Real Estate Institute, Office Technology Institute, and Industrial Careers Institute.

All Galveston Community College students will have access to The Galveston Learning Resource Center which contains over 30,000 books, a student computer lab, Cyber Café, and general public computer work stations. After classes are over, Galveston students take to the field. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the three Galveston Whitecaps sports teams compete on the Division I level. Featuring men's baseball, women's softball, and women's volleyball, Galveston Community College has both physical and financial resources available to outstanding athletes.
