Georgia Academy of Massage
106 Davis Road, Suite D
Martinez, Georgia 30907
Students who want a personal, hands-on approach to study
massage therapy enroll at the Georgia Academy of Massage. The main goal for this
Georgia School is to give students the chance to a have a professional and lucrative career as a massage therapist upon graduation.
Students can follow two curriculums: a 550-hour course and a 600-hour course. Each of these curriculums include courses in anatomy and physiology,
massage therapy and practice, student clinics, and
business and ethics. The 600-hour course offers coursework in other modalities. Each of these curriculums prepares students to take the National Certification Exam and/or MBLEX.
For example, during the Massage Theory and Practice course, students start to learn the history of massage and practice the basic fundamentals of
massage therapy. Draping and positioning is studied, along with learning good body mechanics. Students also study the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of massage. This is also the course that teaches students Oriental, Chair Massage, Pregnancy, Senior, and Deep Tissue Massage.
Student Clinics is a rewarding aspect of the program because it allows students to practice what they've learned. Students have the opportunity to complete supervised massages on clients that the school provides. This is where client assessment skills, techniques, professionalism, and body mechanics all come into play.
To graduate from the school, students have to compete all assignments, participate in classes, attend a minimum of 90 percent of "clock hours," performed 50 massages, and make a 70 percent or above in each class. After graduation, students receive a transcript that will qualify them to take the National Certification Exam.
The Georgia Academy of Massage is approved by the Georgia Non-Public Post-secondary Education Commission and recognized by the Georgia State Board of Massage Therapy. It is also approved by the National Certification Board of
Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
