Georgia Highlands College was founded in 1970 as the Floyd Junior College and the name was changed in 2005. The school now enrolls over 3,500 students per year and offers a number of programs that will lead to an associate degree. Students at Georgia Highlands College can earn an Associate in the Arts degree in the following programs: art; criminal justice; English; foreign languages; history; journalism; philosophy; political science; philosophy; psychology; sociology; and speech and drama. Associate of Science degrees are awarded in: associated dental sciences; biology; business administration; chemistry; computer information systems; computer science; economics; general studies; geology; health information management; mathematics; medical technology; nursing; occupational therapy; pharmacy; physical therapy; physician assistant; physics; respiratory therapy; and teacher education. There are also more than one dozen career programs available at Georgia Highlands College.
Prospective students wishing to enroll at Georgia Highlands College must have a high school diploma or GED for all of the associate degree programs and most of the certificate and diploma programs; must complete a Compass exam, or have SAT or ACT exam scores. Students who have attended other colleges or universities must also provide a transcript from those schools.
