Germanna community college, one of the 23 community colleges in Virginia, is rich with diversity as it serves both urban and rural residents from seven different counties and the city of Fredericksburg. Germanna is one of the fastest growing colleges in Virginia, with buildings at three locations -- Fredericksburg Area Campus, Germanna Center for Advanced Technology, and Locust Grove Campus. Approximately 7,000 students, both full-time and part-time, are enrolled at this two-year institution of higher learning. Germanna Community College offers a multitude of degree programs, certificate programs, and non-credit classes for personal and professional development.

Associate degrees -- in Applied Science and in Arts and Science -- can be obtained at Germanna Community College and include programs that range from business administration and information systems technology to education and nursing. Certificates in fields such as police science and fine arts can also be earned at Germanna. In addition, a wide variety of non-credit courses are offered for workforce training as well as personal enrichment. In many of the programs, distance learning (online, hybrid, and interactive video courses) is an option for students. The flexibility that distance learning provides for students, as opposed to traditional classroom-based instruction, is seen as an excellent benefit.

Students at Germanna Community College are able to receive support from a variety of sources to meet their many needs. Libraries at both campuses provide access to a wide selection of print and electronic resources. Academic computing centers at both campuses allow students to use computing hardware and software services. Tutoring services, free of charge, are available at both campuses, with staff able to provide assistance in person or online. Counseling centers on both campuses provide support services to students to promote student achievement and personal development. Academic advising, transfer planning, and counseling are just some of the many services the centers offer.
