Established in 1984, Golden Gate School of Professional photography (GGS) provides professional-level training to both experienced and amateur photographers. This Photography School offers one- to three-day workshops at various locations in northern California. All classes AIM to improve student's skills so that they can begin or improve their careers as professional photographers. At Golden Gate School of Professional Photography, working professional photographers with decades of experience teach students the skills they need to be successful in this creative field. Instructors have worked for major newspapers, exhibited in galleries, produced work for international advertising campaigns, and had photos featured in publications such as Sports Illustrated and U.S. News & World Report.

Golden Gate School of Professional Photography is affiliated with the Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area, and students can also receive credits for certification from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Classes cover a variety of topics in photography, including people on location, professional lighting techniques, weddings, marketing and sales, and album design and PhotoShop. All classes are hands-on, and participants learn not only from in-class lessons, but also from working closely with other students. Past sessions of the Golden Gate School of Professional Photography have been held on college campuses in the Bay Area, and students may have the option of staying in dorms on-campus while they attend classes. School sites provide a variety scenic locations that can be used for photo demonstrations and to inspire students in their own work.

Golden Gate School of Professional Photography offers a number of scholarships to qualified students, which may cover all or part of tuition at the school. Qualified students may also apply for Golden Gate School of Professional Photography assistantships. Assistants are able to attend school for free or at a discounted rate in exchange for helping instructors with in-class activities, prop set up and a range of other duties. An installment plan is also an option for Golden Gate students who need financing help.
