Center in Berkeley, California, and founded in the 1960s, the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) is a school system that represents a partnership between a number of seminaries and graduate schools in the state. The focus of this collaboration is to prepare and equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to devote their life to research, teaching, the ministry, and service.
Today, the GTU serves approximately 1,300 graduate students and employs more than 150 full-time faculty members to aid them in their educational and life pursuits. In fact, thanks to the number of schools that comprise the Graduate Theological Union, there are over 700 different courses that aspiring students can enroll in once accepted.

Though exact stats range from school to school within the GTU, in general, male students outnumber the female student population. Whites and non-U.S. residents, meanwhile, comprised the majority of the student body.
The GTU's Flora Lamson Hewlett Library is home to over 440,000 text volumes, 1,500 subscriptions to periodicals, and much more.
Students of the Graduate Theological Union range in age from less than 22 to older than 65. The average age of students, however, seems to be in the 30s and 40s.
