Green Mountain College

One College Circle
Poultney, VT 05764

Green Mountain College was founded in 1834 by the Troy Conference of the United Methodist Church. This Vermont School is a coeducational, four-year college offering a wide range of liberal arts and career-focused majors.

Green Mountain College is an environmental liberal arts college. Students learn to see themselves as members of many communities -- natural and social -- and understand how they fit into these environments and what their responsibilities are to them. All students complete a 37-credit environmental general education program, which combines the content of a liberal arts course of study with a focus on the environment.

GMC is situated in southern Vermont's beautiful lakes region, between the Adirondack Mountains and the Green Mountains. The 155-acre campus features athletic fields, a farm, a ropes course, hiking trails, and a swimming hole on the Poultney River.

Green Mountain College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Inc. The education department is accredited by the Vermont State Department of Education. The programs in recreation and outdoor studies are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of the National Recreation and Park Association and the Association for Leisure and Recreation.
