Grinnell College is a private, coed, residential,
liberal arts college. Grinnell students choose from more than 500 course offerings every semester across three disciplines --
humanities, Science, and Social Studies. This Grinnell, Iowa, school confers the Bachelor of Arts degree in more than 25 majors and a dozen concentrations.
Founded on the prairie in 1846, Grinnell College was part of the history of the
American West. A few months before Iowa joined the
Union, a group of transplanted New Englanders with strong social-reformer backgrounds organized as the Trustees of
Iowa college. It was renamed Grinnell College in 1909.
The 120-acre campus in Grinnell is home to buildings, including 19 residence halls. Grinnell is a town with clean air, no traffic, an awesome view of the stars, and a very low crime rate. Located near Interstate 80, U.S. Highways 6 and 63, and State Highway 146, Grinnell is only one hour from Des Moines and Cedar Rapids airports.
