Don't let the name fool you. Throughout the years, Hazard
Community College has been quite successful at providing one and two-year degree and certificate programs to a wide array of students. The school currently offers associate degrees in arts, science, and applied sciences and 21 vocational certificate programs. Hazard
Community College's Work-Based Learning program allows students to split their time between the classroom and the real world. Encompassing cooperative education, internships, and practicum experiences, students who complete a work-based program in addition to their program of study leave campus with on-the-job experience and industry contacts.
The school also provides distance learning options and college readiness courses to adults pursuing their GED or learning English as a Second Language. Hazard
Community College is also home to the Kentucky School of Craft, a state-funded technical education program dedicated to producing the next generation of skilled artisans.
Designed to accommodate both traditional and commuter students, Hazard Community College provides on campus dormitory housing for up to 90 students each year as well as the Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Organization (CANSO) club to help non-residential students get to know each other and the campus. Hazard also provides numerous other student organizations ranging from campus chapters of professional associations to religious groups to volunteer organizations. Students have a total of 22 clubs to choose from including a student government association and a chapter of the international honors fraternity for two-year students, Phi Theta Kappa.
Hazard Community College also does its best to help students reach their educational goals. All students have access to academic advising, financial aid counseling, disability services, and a broad spectrum of
online journals and periodicals from around the world. First-generation, low-income, and physically disabled students can also find additional support through Hazard Community College's Student Support Services program. Serving approximately 200 participants each year, the program provides financial assistance, tutoring, educational workshops, transfer assistance, and cultural enrichment activities to students from under-represented backgrounds.
