Established as the Territorial Trade School in 1920, it wasn't until 1966 that Honolulu
community college gained its name and status as a two-year institution authorized to award Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees. As a member of the University of Hawai'i
Community College System, the school has grown into a comprehensive
Community College offering students a variety of different learning opportunities.

From programs in computer science, astronomy, oceanography, political science, and anthropology, to courses in Asian studies, art, religion, music, and Hawaiin studies.
As the premier career and technical training center in Hawaii, Honolulu Community College offers certificate programs in fields such as administration of justice, fashion technology,

Students who cannot attend this Hawaii college on-campus, should know that they have the option of taking distance education courses. These count towards credit and can be taken via the Internet, cable television programs, or a combination of the two.
As of the Spring of 2004, Honolulu Community College enjoyed a student-faculty ratio of 33:1. At that time the average class size was 19 students.
