Founded in 1960 by the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Houston Baptist University is a coeducational university. This Texas Baptist school aims to build leadership abilities among its students and provide an environment that integrates faith with education.

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Houston Baptist University offers bachelor's degree programs in a wide array of fields, including liberal arts, science, business, education, and pre-professional studies. Several master's programs are also available, including degrees in liberal arts, Accounting, Education, and business Administration.

Located in southwest Houston, the Houston Baptist University campus includes the Moody Library, the Sharp Gymnasium, and the Lake House, a new state-of-the-art residence college. Involvement in campus life is not only encouraged, but mandated; all students are required to complete the Spiritual Life Program before graduating, in which they earn points by participating in service-learning internships, retreats, conferences, or on-campus events.

Houston Baptist University is an NCAA Division I school, and students can compete for the HBU Huskies in eleven different team sports including basketball, golf, and soccer. Intramural and club sports are also offered, and the campus has a thriving Greek life.
