Howard Payne University is a coeducational Christian university, founded in 1889 and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. With an emphasis on liberal arts and professional studies, this Texas Baptist school's academic mission seeks to unite faith with learning.

More than 50 programs are offered within the schools of business, Christian Studies, Education, Humanities, Music and fine arts, and Science and Math. In addition, Howard Payne University offers a 42-credit Master of Arts in Youth Ministry. Students in any field of study may pursue the Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom honors program.

Howard Payne University is an NCAA Division III school, with men's and women's teams competing in basketball, soccer, tennis, and more. Intramural like flag football and table tennis are also available, in addition to Greek organizations, religious groups, honor societies, and student government.

Howard Payne University encourages students to create a network of support throughout their college career. The Center for Academic and Personal Success provides tutoring, career services, and seminars to facilitate success. During a weeklong freshman orientation, incoming students are also paired with a "Big Brother" or "Big Sister" to familiarize them with campus traditions.
