Indiana University Northwest is a public, coeducational university. Established in 1963 and accredited by the North Central Association, it provides the services of the Indiana University system while offering small class sizes and individualized attention. Indiana University Northwest distinguishes itself as a diverse campus with a supportive learning environment.

The academic department offers degrees in more than 30 fields, ranging from certificate programs through master's degrees and postbaccalaureate certification. Master's programs include education, social work, public affairs, and a fast-track M.B.A. program that allows part-time students to complete their advanced business degree in as little as 20 months. For students who are balancing schoolwork with a career, a wide selection of courses are offered on Saturdays through the Weekend College.

Campus life is focused on helping students achieve success. The Office of Multicultural Affairs offers mentoring to minority students, and all students can take advantage of tutoring, child care, and a career services center. Indiana University Northwest is an NCAA Division II school, competing in basketball, cross country, baseball, and volleyball. Club sports are also available, along with a wide range of social and academic clubs.
