Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne is a public, coeducational university accredited by the North Central Association. This Indiana state university is one of several campuses jointly operated by Indiana University and Purdue University, two of the nation's largest university systems. The combined campus at Fort Wayne opened in 1964.

Students at all degree levels can choose from more than 190 academic programs, ranging from certificate programs to master's degrees. Off-campus classes and distance learning are available for the convenience of continuing education students. Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne also offers a service-learning program, in which students can earn college credits for participating in an organization or activity that benefits the community.

Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne is an NCAA Division I school with 16 teams, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, or tennis. Students can also take part in more than 95 student organizations and 1,500 campus events. Campus life received a significant boost in 2004, when the former commuter school opened a Student Housing apartment community for IPFW students.
