The Institute for Holistic Health Studies (IHHS) of San Francisco State University offers a comprehensive undergraduate program. The Holistic Health curriculum consists of 16 interdisciplinary courses that teach psychophysiological, psychospiritual, and eco-social theories and practices.

Students take courses within three program areas, including GE Segment III courses, the Holistic Health Minor and certificate program, and the Holistic Health Certificate program in the College of Extended Learning. Students can also take Holistic Health studies as part of a pre-professional Special Major, B.A., or M.A.

IHHS courses encourage critical thinking, holistic inquiry, and multicultural ways of viewing health and illness, as well as reality, self, and world. Holistic health is important to all health-related professionals, including nurses, physicians, paramedics, educators, therapists, counselors, researchers, and many others.

Students may take Holistic Health courses as general education requirements or as free electives for personal development and enrichment. Many students enter graduate programs, health-care professions, or health-related business and education careers with the skills developed from holistic health education.

The Institute for Holistic Health Studies offers internships in interactive learning environment at the Holistic Health Learning Center. At the HHLC, students learn to expand the conventional assumptions of medicine, education, philosophy, and politics for use in personal life and community activism.
