Established in 1962, the Institute of American Indian Arts is a four-year, fine arts college. This Santa Fe art college is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. While the student body represents as many as 112 tribes, enrollment is open to any student committed to the preservation and expression of American Indian and Alaskan Native arts.

The academic programs at the Institute of American Indian Arts AIM to promote leadership and artistic expression. Students can earn associate or bachelor's degree in several fields including Museum Studies, Studio Arts, Creative Writing, and New Media Arts. Accredited online courses in indigenous studies are also available.

Students at the Institute of American Indian Arts can participate in field trips, student government, and various clubs. In addition, the location in Santa Fe provides a unique connection to Native culture and traditions, including outreach programs to the 19 New Mexico Pueblos. Santa Fe's annual Indian Art Market is the country's largest gathering of Indian artists, and Santa Fe also boasts 250 art galleries and 12 museums.
