The Institute of Textile Technology is a private
Graduate School founded by textile industry leaders in 1944. Research is the core of ITT's academic program, and both faculty and students conduct studies on manufacturing methods and competitiveness issues. The Institute of Textile Technology is also home to the Textile Analysis and Troubleshooting Laboratory, which provides testing and analysis services for member companies.
Scholarly research is a key component of the curriculum, and courses are supplemented by seminars, group studies, and summer internships. Each year, up to 15 students who have been accepted into the master's degree program at
North Carolina State University's College of Textiles are invited to pursue their degree through the "ITT Fellows" program. The degree is issued by NCSU; however, ITT Fellows are required to complete additional coursework, seminars, and activities planned by the Institute.
distance learning is available through NCSU, and the Institute of Textile Technology offers
professional education and executive conferences as well.

The Institute of Textile Technology is now located on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University.
