Since 1973, the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. has been dedicated to providing physicians from a variety of medical disciplines with acupuncture training that draws on both classic and contemporary practices and techniques. Students who satisfactorily complete their education at the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. receive a certification in the field.

Depending on the medical profession a student works in, the type of certification and education s/he receives from this Arizona Acupuncture school will differ. For example, the Fellowhip Certification (FIAMA), is only available to students with DO, DC, DDS, DPM, MD, and ND degrees. The Clinical Technician Certification, however, is available to health care support personnel who are not physicians (e.g. nurses and physician assistants).

In addition, the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. also offers acupuncture certification programs in Ohio, Florida, and Missouri. Although the acupuncture programs taught at the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. cover some of the methods, concepts, and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), they are not comprehensive and thus should not be considered as replacements for full courses and/or programs in TCM.

The Fellowship Certification program takes an academic year to complete, and requires students to participate 105 didactic hours and 200 clinical hours.

The Clinical Technician Certification program requires students to attend a 100 hours of class.

The International Academy of Medical Acupuncture Inc. offers additional programs that are aimed at accommodating the many different professions within the medical field. Programs include the Diplomate Dipl.Ac. (IAMA) program, the Accelerate Reciprocal Fellowship, the Meridian Dynamics program, the Meridian Orthopedics program, and the Acupuncture Orthopedics.
