The International Center of
photography is a photography school located in New York City. Founded in 2001, the International Center of Photography is a 27,000-foot state-of-the-art facility that has classroom and black-and-white and color lab spaces; digital labs with resources for multimedia, digital photography, video editing and production; and a professional shooting studio.
The International Center of Photography has two 1-year
certificate programs. The first
certificate program is in general studies. The general studies program incorporates contemporary and historic fine arts, documentary or editorial contexts, as well as fashion, anthropological, scientific, and other photographic practices. The class includes readings, presentations by visiting artists, slide presentations and video screenings, studio and museum field trips, critiques, and discussions. The goal of the class is to help each student strengthen their ability to see photographically. Students may opt to include the completion of 120 contact hours in class, and they will earn 32 credits, or one full year of credit toward their Bachelor's Degree at
Bard College.
The documentary photography and
photojournalism program covers editorial process, long-term projects, and world events. The program requires students to participate in an internship with a photo agency, gallery, photographer, or magazine. The advanced photographic studies program at the International Center of Photography is a two-year graduate degree program designed for students who want to earn a Master of Fine Arts Degree. This 60-hour program includes the production and exhibition of original art; a cumulative written document; completion of assignments and internships. The graduate seminars blend in-depth study, intensive discussions, and individual work.
The International Center of Photography also offers continuing education programs for hobbyists and professionals who wish to work on specific skills. The International Center of Photography offers more than 400 courses. Students may select 5-10 week courses, as well as workshops as short as a weekend. Students at the International Center of Photography may also choose from travel workshops that are taught in such locations as Italy and Taos, New Mexico.
