Mitaka-shi, Tokyo, Japan
Located in the beautiful country of Japan, International
Christian university (ICU) is an institution of higher education that's based in
Christian ideals. At its core the Japanese university is dedicated to three goals: Christian, academic, and international commitments. Although International Christian University is firmly committed to Christian philosophy, the school's main mission is not to change people's faith.
With roots that trace back to 1948 with the founding of the Japan International Christian University Foundation (JICUF), International Christian University's creation was the realization of both Japanese and American Christians' desire to create an interdenominational Christian institution. International Christian University would officially open in the 1950s, with its school, the College of
liberal arts, becoming the first four-year
liberal arts college in the country.
Students of International Christian University may earn bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees, depending on whether they enter the College of
liberal arts or the
Graduate School. The latter school is comprised of the Division of Education, the Division of Comparative Culture, the Division of Natural Sciences, and the Division of Public Administration.
