Johnson C. Smith University is a private, coeducational, four-year
liberal arts college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. JCSU has ranked twice among the top tier of comprehensive colleges in the South and among the top 10 Best Black Colleges by

The academic program at Johnson C. Smith University emphasizes the importance of ethical values as a foundation for intellectual development. More than 27 majors are offered through the College of
arts and sciences, the College of Professional Students, and the Honors College.
The Johnson C. Smith University campus is located in Charlotte, two hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cooperative learning programs and
internships are available at more than 90 companies in the area. In addition, all students are required to complete at least 40 hours of community service before graduating.
Johnson C. Smith University is an NCAA Division II school, with six men's and eight women's teams including basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and track. Students can also participate in more than 100 student organizations including academic clubs, class council, Greek organizations, pep squads, and a student newspaper.
