Johnson state college is a public liberal arts college and one of five colleges in the Vermont State College system. Founded in 1828 as an elementary and secondary school, Johnson State College became a four-year teaching college in 1947 and a Liberal arts school in 1962. Johnson State College offers a supportive learning environment that promotes social awareness and protects freedom of expression.

Certificates, Associate Degrees, and bachelor's degrees are available in more than 25 programs in education, humanities, sciences, business, and the arts. On the graduate level, students can earn a Master of Arts degree in Counseling or Education, or complete a low-residency M.F.A. in Visual Arts.

The 350-acre Johnson State College campus is located in the Green Mountains of Vermont, within a few hours of Burlington and Montreal. Men's and women's NCAA Division III teams compete in cross country, soccer, basketball, and tennis, along with a men's lacrosse team and women's softball team. More than 30 student organizations are also offered, along with numerous community service and leadership opportunities.
