Lane College is a private, coeducational, four-year college associated with the Methodist Episcopal church and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Founded by former slave Bishop Isaac Lane in 1882, this Tennessee Methodist college is a Historically Black College but welcomes students from all backgrounds. The mission of Lane College is to enrich academic excellence with social and spiritual development.

Creative thinking and the "Power of Potential" are emphasized in the academic program. Lane College offers programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or bachelor of science degree. More than 15 majors are offered within the divisions of business, social science, liberal studies, and natural sciences. engineering students can complete a dual degree program, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Lane College and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Tennessee State University.

Lane College is an NCAA Division II school, with six men's teams and five women's teams. Students can also participate in student government, honor societies, Greek life, the marching band, and several academic clubs.
