Community College prides itself on being an affordable education alternative for students. Classes cost as little as $20 per credit hour. To help subsidize their tuition bill (and to get a jump on the job market), Laney
Community College students are encouraged to participate in the school's Cooperative Work Experience Education program. Designed to give students a taste of their field in the real world, the CWEE program provides students with paid positions with local companies. Once CWEE students have completed both their cooperative work and their program of study, they'll leave campus armed with a diploma, a resume packed with experience, industry contacts, and a paycheck. Students that can't afford to take an entire semester to complete a cooperative work experience also have the option of taking on a non-paid volunteer position, internship, or apprenticeship.
All students are eligible for Laney Community College's free academic support services. The school provides academic advising, financial aid counseling, disability support services, English as a Second Language classes, personal counseling, and tutoring. Additional support services are available for low-income, first-generation, and physically disabled college students and childcare facilities can be found on campus. Laney Community College is also home to a diverse range of student clubs and organizations, including a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society for two-year college students.
