Students benefit from small, interactive class sizes the numerous research centres on campus, which cover such areas as mining, environment, education and health. The Northern Ontario
school of medicine, a joint venture of Laurentian and Lakehead universities has main campuses in both Sudbury and Thunder Bay and focuses on rural, northernand Aboriginal health.
Laurentian is growing rapidly, adding undergraduate and graduate programs as well as new buildings and facilities, always striving to give students the best education possible. Additionally, the University's research capacity continues to grow and averages $15 million a year in funding.
The University takes a strong interest in working with and for the community and environment, with various plans such as the Living with Lakes Centre, which will be the first institutional building in Canada to achieve the Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, the highest in the country.

Laurentian University has enrollment of nearly 6,000 full-time undergraduates and 300 full-time graduate students, in addition to more than 2,002 part-time undergraduates and 300 part-time graduates.
Laurentian includes three federated universities: Huntington University, Thorneloe University and University of Sudbury. It also has two affiliated colleges: Collège universitaire de Hearst and Algoma University College, located in Sault Ste. Marie.
The institution has a partnership with Georgian College, which allows students to complete a three-year degree at the Barrie or Orillia campuses, with the option of a fourth year at Laurentian in Sudbury.

Laurentian offers more than 90 undergraduate programs and more than 20 graduate programs, and continues to add to its offerings.
