In 1974, Los Medanos College opened its doors to the community of Pittsburg, California and students of Contra Costa County. In the years since, the school has developed into a two-year institution of higher learning that provides students with the opportunity to get the career training and education they need to get the job they want.

At this California Community College, students may earn a certificate or associate degree in a wide array of disciplines. With 27 different departments, fields of study include, but are not limited to: administration of justice, art, engineering, environmental science, journalism, recording arts, and welding technology.

In addition to its main campus in Pittsburg, Los Medanos College also runs the Brentwood Center in Brentwood, California. Here students have access to business, computer science, child development, occupational training, and transfer classes, as well as the opportunity to earn an associate degree.

Individual programs within this California Community College have been approved by outside organizations. Students who are unable to attend class at either of Los Medanos College's locations, may also enroll in one of its online courses, which range in topic from computers and accounting to history and literature.
