With its scenic location in the Blue Ridge region, Mayland community college serves more than 8,000 learners each year through associate degree, certificate, and non-credited programs of study. The school currently operates its main campus in Spruce Pine as well as two satellite campuses in Yancey County and Avery County. All three campuses provide an array of transfer, basic skills, continuing education, and vocational courses. At the associate degree level, Mayland Community College offers two-year programs in an array of liberal arts, business, public service, and applied science fields. The school supports a particularly strong Business, engineering, and Public Service Technologies department that houses programs ranging from Electronic Commerce to Esthetics Technology. On the certificate level, Mayland Community College provides students with vocational options including welding, masonry, and carpentry. Students not yet ready to enter Mayland Community College can hone their basic skills before applying for admission. Operating college preparation, GED prep, family literacy, and English as a Second Language courses available to the public, Mayland is committed to taking you from admittance to graduation without leaving any student behind.

Thanks to the schoo's RAVEN program, Mayland Community College now provides a wide array of distance education options for non-traditional learners. Select classes are taught using instructional television, videotape, and online mediums, allowing students to study on their own time.

Once enrolled, Mayland Community College students have access to a tremendous number of academic and professional support programs. The school supports a lively campus community including a student government association, a men's basketball, and a women's volleyball team. Each year Mayland Community College hosts several community events including lifelong learning weekends, a storytelling festival, and emergency services information sessions. Additional support services include personal and career counseling, academic advisement, financial aid counseling, transfer assistance, resume workshops, disability support, tutoring, personality assessments, job search help, and reading, writing, and math support.
