Founded in 1869, McDaniel College is a four-year, private liberal arts college located 30 miles from Baltimore and 56 miles from Washington, D.C. in Westminster, Maryland, the largest town and county seat in Carroll County.

McDaniel College students have a choice of more than 60 areas of study, including preprofessional, teaching certificates and off-campus programs. McDaniel's students can choose traditional, dual, double majors, or design their own majors. Student self-designed majors include Art in Deaf Culture, Criminal Psychology, and Sports journalism. Off campus study is available in the U.S. and overseas. The college has a campus in Budapest, Hungary.
