Founded in 1869, McDaniel College is a four-year, private liberal arts college located 30 miles from Baltimore and 56 miles from Washington, D.C. in Westminster, Maryland, the largest town and county seat in Carroll County.

McDaniel College students have a choice of more than 60 areas of study, including preprofessional, teaching certificates and off-campus programs. McDaniel's students can choose traditional, dual, double majors, or design their own majors. Student self-designed majors include Art in Deaf Culture, Criminal Psychology, and Sports journalism. Off campus study is available in the U.S. and overseas. The college has a campus in Budapest, Hungary.

Students with excellent academic backgrounds and outstanding standardized test scores are welcome to apply for McDaniel College's Honors Programs. Members of these programs take specially-designed courses and participate in special activities.

Students and their professors work together on more than 200 research projects each year. Many of these students have the opportunity to be co-authors of professional papers before completing their degree programs.

McDaniel College's 12 men's and women's teams compete in NCAA Division III and the Centennial Conference.

Eighty-five percent of McDaniel's students receive financial assistance through grants, scholarships, loans, and work study. About 60% are need-based awards ranging from $200 to full tuition each year. Approximately $17 million in scholarships are awarded to students with exceptional academic talents.

McDaniel is accredited by the Commission on Higher education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

More than 3,600 pizzas are consumed in the dining hall each semester.

Harvey is the resident ghost in the WMC Alumni Hall, the college's theatre, and Theatre Department. This building is one of six McDaniel's buildings on the National Historic Register list.

McDaniel ranks in the top 50 institutions with alumni who earn a Ph.D. in Biology or Biochemistry. McDaniel's graduates are teaching at 194 colleges and universities.
